The Adoption Process — Adopting a Friend
Adoption Policy

With the exception of the occasional guardian surrender, all of our adoptable pets have either been rescued from high kill shelters in NJ and neighboring states, rescued from homelessness on the streets or rescued from tragically abusive and/or neglectful situations.

Our Veterinary expenses  are always thousands of dollars per month, as we routinely treat difficult cases, and we have an enormous flow of animals into our foster care network, all of whom require routine care such as shots, blood work, and many whom require extremely expensive specialty care.

In addition, spay/neuter surgery is performed on EVERY SINGLE animal in our adoption program, unlike many rescue groups which may require the adopter to spay or neuter their adopted pet at their own expense.  ALL OF OUR ANIMALS, REGARDLESS OF AGE are altered, and this is an enormous monthly expense for us.

We must ask adopters to make a donation upon adoption to support the rescue and help cover the costs of vetting, medications, food and other related necessities.

Animal Alliance is a volunteer, non-profit organization. We rely heavily on donations from adopters and supporters to continue our rescue work; removing animals from immediate danger of euthanasia at shelters and placing them into the safety of foster homes where they are rehabilitated, spayed/neutered, and readied for a speedy adoption to carefully chosen homes.

While animals are in our care they are  evaluated, socialized and in most cases either house trained, crate trained or paper trained depending on the age and length of time they are with us.  We are familiar with each individual animal's personality and nature and can provide details such as how well they get along with other animals, if they are submissive or dominant and if they are trustworthy with children.

Services Included in the Adoption Donation:
  • Spay or Neuter
  • Age-appropriate shots
  • Heartworm preventative for dogs over 3 months of age
  • Flea & tick preventative for all dogs and puppies over 8 weeks of age
  • Deworming

Please Note: Grooming is not included in the adoption donation. Many of our dogs come to us severely neglected and in need of professional grooming prior to adoption.
