Suzanne Evangelista
Foster Guardian
Suzanne is our most devoted,
dedicated feline foster mothers. Over the
past 4 years, She has fostered literally hundreds of kittens and cats, meticulously
presiding over their care in her immaculate home.
A native New Yorker, Suzanne retired from her career as an elementary school
teacher and restaurant owner to be a stay-at-home mom to her two daughters
(who are also wonderful Animal Alliance volunteers) and now works part-time
at a local gym. “Fastidiously clean” would be an understatement
of Suzanne’s attention to creating a spotless, germ-free environment
for her family and foster pets.
Sickly, scrawny “babies” blossom into plump, roly-poly kittens
under Suzanne’s watchful eye and constant attention. Any kitten
lucky enough to grow up in the glorious feline “cocoon” that she
has created in a spare bedroom in her home goes off to its new home in perfect
health with bright eyes and gleaming fur. Suzanne has been known to
stay up around the clock bottle-feeding or hand feeding kittens that need nourishment
and extra care.
One of our most cheerful volunteers, Suzanne has a giant smile, a year-round
tan, and a heart of gold. She is a friend to all who have the pleasure
of working with her. Surprisingly, Suzanne and her family do not have
a cat as a pet, just their beloved Westie, Harley.
Suzanne provided loving, long term foster care to a old tomcat named Vienna
who died in her arms after months of loving care. Her last dog, Gizmo,
suffered from cancer and received constant care and countless trips to the
emergency vet until the end of his life at which point Suzanne decided to become
a foster mother to animals in need in his honor.
A consummate animal lover, Suzanne is a woman of honesty and integrity, and
has been an inspiration to her fellow rescuers and colleagues at Animal Alliance.
